In Galatians 4:21–5:1, Pastor Braden explores Paul’s illustration of Abraham’s two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, to reveal the difference between slavery to works and freedom through faith in Jesus Christ. Ishmael represents human effort—trying to accomplish through the flesh what only God can provide—while Isaac represents God’s promise received by faith.
The message emphasizes three important truths: you cannot earn what God has promised, there are only two ways to live—slavery or freedom—and we must stand firm in the freedom Christ has won. Salvation cannot be earned through obedience, religious activity, or good works. Instead, Jesus fulfilled the law, died for our sins, and rose again so that everyone who repents and places their faith in Him can be forgiven and set free.
As children of the promise, believers have been adopted into God’s family and given a spiritual inheritance through Christ. This freedom does not lead to careless living but to joyful obedience—not because we are trying to earn God’s love, but because Christ has already set us free. Rather than returning to the bondage of works-based righteousness, Christians are called to trust God with their salvation, sanctification, families, finances, careers, relationships, and every area of life.
